Marwa Hassoun focuses her practice in international trade and commercial litigation. Ms. Hassoun’s international trade practice includes both export and import regulations and compliance. She specializes in export controls, including sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Anti-Boycott regulations, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Federal Trade Regulations. Ms. Hassoun assists clients with obtaining export licenses and agreement approvals from the Departments of Commerce, State, and Treasury, preparing commodity jurisdiction and classification requests, and assessing compliance with export and defense trade controls, trade sanctions and anti-boycott, laws and regulations. On the import side, Ms. Hassoun focuses on customs compliance, tariff classification, rules of origin, marking rules and other regulatory requirements. She assists clients with preparing prior disclosures, assisting with focusedassessments , filing customs protests and creating import compliance programs.
Ms. Hassoun’s litigation work focuses on international cases in U.S. courts as well as general commercial litigation, including actions related to government contracts and mortgages. She is also a member of the firm’s Art Law Team, where she assists in international contracts and disputes.
Ms. Hassoun graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she served as co-chair of the Middle Eastern Law Students Association and was an instructor of Street Law. Additionally, she externed at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of California, clerking for the Civil Division.
