Judge Mena Guirguis, a long time AALASC Board Member, was recently appointed as a judge to the Orange County Superior Court. Prior to his appointment, Mena Guirguis was a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. During his sixteen years in the District Attorney's Office, Mena served as a trial attorney in the Homicide, Gang and Sexual Assault Units. Judge Guirguis is also the former president of the Orange County Attorney’s Association, the labor organization representing all non-management attorneys employed by the County of Orange, including attorneys from the offices of the Public Defender, District Attorney, Child Support Services, and County Counsel.
Judge Guirguis previously volunteered with Orange Outreach and Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership, which are programs that educate and support children in gang-infested neighborhoods. He also volunteered as a coach with the Santa Ana High School Mock Trial Team. Finally, he is a co-founder of the Orange County Unity Bar and OC District Attorney's Association for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.
Judge Guirguis earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Physiological Sciences, and a law degree from Loyola Law School. He immigrated to the United States from Egypt at a young age and most enjoys spending time with his wife and their 3 young boys.
Judge Guirguis is the first Egyptian judge in Southern California and the first Arab American judge appointed in Orange County. He is currently a member of the AALASC Board.
